Buy In Bulk On Every Day Food Items

Mom’s if your family budgeting requires cheap groceries then you cannot overlook this one simple rule. Buy In Bulk on Every Day Food Items and save money. Let me break it down even more to explain what I mean.

What do I Buy In Bulk:  I have learned over the years to buy 5 loaves of bread instead of one. I know that buying 3 gallons of milk will save me a trip to the grocery store tomorrow. We love pretzels so I buy the big 5 lb bulk bags and break it down in gallon size Ziploc. And most important, if it’s on sale buy more than what you need today to build a back stock for tomorrow. Simply put, buy 3 or 4 of those great sale items.

What are Every Day Food Item: also known as kitchen staples or even staples food are the basic items you would buy for the pantry such as: flour, sugar, canned goods, peanut butter, baking items, seasonings, pastas or non food items such as toilet paper and paper towels.

Now how do you buy in bulk? You can get a lot of great deals on bulk items at your local Sam’s Club or Costco. You are however required to purchase a membership and be aware that most of the items are name brand and therefore come with the name brand price. You can find case lot food sales from your local grocery stores and stock up. Each store will usually run 2 case lot sales per year in the fall and again in the spring. Right now in my area, the local Smith’s Grocery Food and Drug (also know as Kroger) starts their fall 3 week case lot sale next Tuesday.

So which is better? I shop both! I buy bread, frozen meats, snacks and non food items like trash bags, Ziploc Baggies and dish-washing detergent from my local Costco. I then plan ahead and purchase my food staples during case lot sales to get a better deals on generic or store brand canned foods, baking items and toilet paper just to name a few.
